Several local celebrities on social media on Monday welcomed the unexpected snow that fell lightly in places over parts of Gauteng.
RNews earlier reported that Hannelee Doubell, communications manager of the weather service, labeled Monday as presumably the coldest day this winter, with temperatures expected to reach a maximum of only 13 °C.
This is the first light snowfall of this nature in Gauteng in more than ten years.

However, social media quickly caught fire with scores of people sharing their snow-related photos and videos.
The comedians Bouwer Bosch and Mark Lottering naturally kept the laughter warm.
“A Supermodel can never take a day off. Whether it’s snow or sunshine,” Lottering shared a photo of himself posing with sunglasses on Instagram.
Bosch shared photos of himself covered in fine snowflakes and used the hashtag #Snowhannesburg.
This singer also shared part of his hit song, “Sy klink soos lente”, in which he sings the words “when it snows in Pretoria”.
The former Married to rugbyactor, Werner Coetser, posted a video on Instagram in which he and Deep waters Rigard van Jaarsveld (Tommie) and Sandi Schultz (Zelda) stand together in the snow.
“Seems to me Christmas in July is a thing. What do you want for Christmas?” asked Coetser, who plays the role of Jacques in this kykNET telenovela, teasingly.

“Well, no more snow,” replied a laughing Van Jaarsveld, to which Sandi added: “Yes, no, it definitely is Christmas in July.”
Newlyweds Bennie Fourie and Mila Guy, who currently live in the Western Cape, also wanted to be part of the fun.
“When you seriously SNOMO have,” Guy wrote in an Instagram post of a video in which Fourie sprinkles her with icing sugar.
“Stay 12 years in JHB, nothing. Move away, SNOW,” Simoné Pretorius, actress and author, responded to Guy’s post.
Also Domestics ‘s David Viviers (Liam) and Je-Ani Swieggelaar (Naomi) braved the snowflakes.
