The Oscars of fashion events, better known as the Met gala, took place on Monday night at the Metropolitan Museum in New York.

As usual, the creative, daring and sometimes extravagant fashion choices of the world’s most beautiful celebrities did not disappoint.

“Fashion’s biggest night” takes place annually on the first Monday in May, and in addition to the theme, which this year was “The Garden of Time”, no fashion rules apply.

The theme this year draws inspiration from the British author JG Ballard’s eponymous short story from 1962 and largely took care of botanical and fairytale-like outfits.

Celebrities like the model Gigi Hadid, Ayo Edebiri of The Bear-fame and actresses Dove Cameron and Zendaya stayed true to the theme with floral, romantic creations.

Zendaya, who is currently in the two big blockbusters Dunes 2 and The Challengers can be seen, was one of the Met-gala’s co-hosts this year along with Chris Hemsworth, Jennifer Lopez and the chat rhymer Bad Bunny.

The 27-year-old actress flaunted two striking outfits, both with extravagant headpieces, one of which mimicked a bunch of flowers.

Bright colors never go out of fashion

The tennis star Maria Sharapova and actresses such as Jessica Biel, Rachel Zegler and Elizabeth Debicki, known for her role as Princess Diana in The Crownstood out in bright shades of pink, blue, green and gold on the Met Gala’s carpet.

Sharapova’s dress was allegedly inspired by the neon yellow of a tennis ball.

Shiny and chunky

No red carpet event is complete without a few shiny numbers.

The Mamma Mia-actress Amanda Seyfried, television personality Kim Kardashian, as well as actresses Sarah Jessica Parker and Jennifer Lopez flaunted in glittering outfits.

Kardashian, who is often a hit at the Met Gala, had fans scratching their heads rather than spinning this year with her metallic floral tight-fitting dress and sweater by designer Maison Margiela under the banner of John Galliano.

Fashion experts pointed out that this combination is different from Kardashian’s previous striking outfits. In 2022, she wore a dress that Marilyn Monroe wore in 1962 when she met Pres. John F Kennedy sang on his birthday.

Simplicity still striking

Oscar winner Nicole Kidman, Downton Abbey-actress Lily James and South African singer Tyla proved that simplicity can be striking even on the Met Gala carpet.

Tyla, who became an international sensation almost overnight thanks to her hit song “Water”, her custom-made Balmain dress clung tightly to her body and was true to the Met-gala theme in that it represented the sands of an hourglass.

There is even “sand” sprinkled on her shoulders and her outfit is topped off with an hourglass handbag.

Weird, weirder, weirdest

Demi Moore, singer Lana Del Rey and chat rhymer Cardi B didn’t hold back, sporting big headpieces and extravagant drags on their outfits, respectively.

Del Rey’s dress and headpiece were reminiscent of the fairy tale of Thorns, while Cardi B’s black tulle dress and headpiece represented “a big black rose” according to her. She required the assistance (and strength) of nine people to move around.
