The OR Tambo airport was bursting at the seams on Tuesday morning with thousands of Springbok supporters eagerly awaiting the victorious team – and the shiny gold Webb Ellis trophy.
With flying flags and in costumes, with Faf hair and waving posters, the Boxing team was welcomed after the weekend’s historic victory over New Zealand in France. The team starts on Thursday with a trophy tour that kicks off in Gauteng. It moves to Cape Town on Friday, Durban on Saturday and ends in East London on Sunday.
“Rassie, Rassie, Rassie…” echoed through the airport’s arrivals hall where supporters had already started gathering from dawn to welcome the men in green and gold.
A beaming Siya Kolisi, captain of the Bok team, burst through the doors of the international arrival hall with the trophy above his head with supporters – and even a few police officers – almost exploding with joy.
