Photos: Vacation resort at Groot Brak River under water

The Pine Creek holiday resort in Great Brak River is under water after heavy rain fell on parts of the Western Cape on Friday evening as predicted.

Shaun Imbrailo from Pine Creek told RNews on Saturday that the floodwaters at the resort are attributed to a “cloud break more inland” that caused the Wolwedans Dam to overflow last night.

“All that water has now come down.”

Some of the resort’s residential units near the river had to be evacuated due to the floodwaters after water flowed into the units.

Visitors in the caravan park also had to move to higher areas.

The emergency services were also called at one stage to take an elderly woman to safety.

However, Imbrailo says there is no cause for concern. “The water has been higher in the past.”

The Mossel Bay Municipality says the Groot Brak River, the Kouma River as well as the Leeukloof and Ruiterbos Rivers are in flood.

The Geelbeksvleipad, Haelkraalpad and the access road to Leeukloof are closed at this stage.

Motorists are urged to travel with caution and consider alternative routes.
