Police hunting attackers who killed member of Valke

The Falcons’ national head, Lt. Gen. Godfrey Lebeya, on Monday instructed a multidisciplinary team to investigate the murder of Lt. Col. to investigate Frans Mathipa and to put those responsible for his murder behind bars as soon as possible.

Mathipa, attached to the Hawks’ investigation team for serious organized crime in Gauteng, was busy with an investigation on Sunday evening when he was shot dead on the N1 highway near the Hammanskraal toll gate.

According to Brig. Thandi Mbambo, spokesperson for the Hawks, Mathipa was shot in the head after which he lost control of the vehicle and ended up in a ditch.

“He was pronounced dead at the scene and a case of murder was filed at the Hammanskraal police station.

“The case will be investigated by the Falcons’ investigation team for serious organized crime,” says Mbambo.

Lebeya condemned the killing of the dedicated police officer and expressed his condolences to Mathipa’s family, friends and colleagues.

“Those who attack police officers are a threat to the country. Lt. Col. Mathipa was a dedicated investigative officer who specialized in crimes against the state.

“We are confident that the investigation team will work hard to catch those responsible,” says Lebeya.
