A few hours after a Limpopo police officer was shot dead in cold blood in his car, a suspect was arrested in Braamfontein, Johannesburg.

The police officer who was attached to the Burgersfort police was shot dead in the early hours of the morning on Saturday in the Lebowakgomo area by unknown assailants who were driving a Volkswagen Golf 7 GTI.

Lt. Col. Matimba Maluleke, Falcons spokesperson, said a multidisciplinary team immediately began investigating which led them to Braamfontein, Johannesburg.

“The vehicle in question with three occupants was spotted and stopped. The driver of the vehicle, presumably the killer, has been arrested.”

According to Maluleke, the team then went to the suspect’s residential address in Rooihuiskraal in Centurion. The house was searched and a firearm, presumably the murder weapon, was found and seized. “The team also seized the vehicle, a large amount of money and a mobile phone.”

In the meantime, an investigation is being conducted to determine whether the suspect may have been involved in other crimes.

The suspect will soon appear in the Lebowakgomo Magistrate’s Court on charges of murder, possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition and other possible charges.
