Power back again during the day

Phase 1 load shedding will be introduced on Wednesday and Thursday from 05:00 to 16:00.

However, phase 3 load shedding will still apply on Tuesday from 4pm to midnight.

Eskom says the introduction of phase 1 load shedding during the day is due to an increase in problems at generating units.

“Load shedding will be suspended on Thursday at midnight until Friday at 4:00 p.m. and phase 3 load shedding will again apply from 4:00 p.m. to midnight.”

At this stage, 14,991 MW of generation capacity is unavailable due to breakdowns and another 4,264 MW is unavailable due to planned maintenance work.

At Grootvlei, Kriel and Matla, generation units were brought back online in the last 24 hours, but at the same time a unit at the Majuba and Tatuka power stations respectively had to be taken out of service due to problems.

There are also delays in bringing generating units at the Tutuka power station back online and according to Eskom this is contributing to capacity constraints.
