Princess Catherine, the Princess of Wales, was admitted to hospital on Tuesday for a planned stomach operation.

Kensington Palace confirmed in a statement that the operation was successful and she is expected to recuperate in hospital for ten to 14 days before returning home.

“Doctors advise that she only resume her public duties after Easter.”

The princess appreciates the interest that this information will provoke, but hopes that the public will understand that she wants to ensure as much normality as possible for her children. She also requests that her personal medical information be kept confidential.

A spokesman for the palace undertook to provide information on Princess Catherine’s progress as soon as any significant new information is available.

“The Princess of Wales apologizes to anyone affected by the postponement of her duties. She looks forward to resuming her duties as soon as possible.”
