Proteas prepare for Rose Test

The Protea netball team will play three matches against the Roses in England in December. The clashes will be decided in Manchester and Nottingham respectively.

Bongi Msomi will captain the group of 14 players that includes experienced stars such as Karla Pretorius, Phumza Maweni and Ine-Marí Taljaard.

The exciting Ané Retief, captain of Kovsies’ netball team, can make her international debut in the series.

“It is every athlete’s dream to represent her country and I am looking forward to gaining international experience and learning from the other players,” she told the Bloemfontein Courant.

The Proteas are currently fifth in World Netball’s official rankings, while England are in third place.

The team leaves for Great Britain on Monday and they will play a warm-up match against Scotland on December 3 before the England Test series begins in earnest on December 5.

Proteas to England: Boitumelo Mahloko, Kamogelo Maseko, Phumza Maweni, Bongi Msomi (captain), Rolene Streutker, Refiloe Nketsa, Karla Pretorius, Lefébre Rademan, Jeanté Strydom, Nicola Smith, Ané Retief, Owethu Ngubane, Ine-Marí Venter and Nicholé Taljaard.
