A six-legged puppy that was found abandoned in a car park in Pembroke, Wales last year is now with other four-legged friends after undergoing surgery this week.

The puppy, a cocker spaniel, is after the mermaid Ariel from the Disney hit Little Mermaid named because of the extra partially fused back legs that looked like a mermaid’s tail, reports BBC.

However, the extra paws were removed at Langford Vets Small Animal Referral Hospital on Thursday after £15,000 was raised for the operation. The operation was successful and she is expected to make a full recovery.

“She is doing very well; she bounced back and is a happy little dog. We hope she continues to live a wonderful life,” Aaron Lutchman, the surgeon who performed the operation, told the BBC.

“She has her own little character and even though she had a difficult start in life, she’s done really well to get through this… if we do what we can to help, then it’s just absolutely brilliant.”

Ariel would be discharged over the weekend and after a few weeks of physiotherapy, work would begin to find her a “forever home”.
