This week, the Falcons seized a shipment of drugs worth R1.5 million at the OR Tambo international airport.
Col. Philani Nkwalase, spokesperson for the directorate for priority crime investigations (the Falcons), says the Falcons’ unit in Germiston, which investigates serious organized crime, was called to the airport on Wednesday.
“The police were informed by a courier company that came across 11 bags of drugs, each weighing 25 kg. The suspected drugs, wrapped in transparent plastic, were hidden in a brown container.”
The drugs were taken to a forensic laboratory for analysis.
“No one has been arrested yet and the investigation continues.”
Maj. Gen. Ebrahim Kadwa, provincial head of the Falcons, praised the courier company for their vigilance and cooperation with authorities. “This seizure will cripple the operations of the drug syndicate.”
