Rainy paw Proteas practice match

The practice match before the World Cup cricket tournament between South Africa and Afghanistan in Thiruvananthapuram was called off without a single ball being bowled on Friday.

Heavy rain marred the match and both sides now have just one more practice match to work out their plans before the tournament starts in India next week.

The Proteas, whose captain Temba Bavuma had to return home due to family commitments, will hope the weather in Thiruvananthapuram clears up enough for their last training match on Monday against New Zealand.

Bavuma is expected to rejoin the team for the South Africans’ opening game against Sri Lanka in Delhi on Saturday.

Afghanistan have a final practice match against Sri Lanka in Guwahati on Tuesday, before they will also play their opening match – against Bangladesh – on Saturday.
