Review: ‘Soapy’ Deon Meyer detective story takes shape on small screen

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ (8/10)
With Hilton Pelser and Sisanda Henna
Director: Jozua Malherbe
On M-Net, DStv CatchUp and DStv Stream

I don’t think I need to explain who Bennie Griessel is. Everyone who knows Deon Meyer’s books knows him better than the final score of the Springboks’ recent victory over New Zealand.

Benny is the haunted detective in the detective novels that has already achieved legendary status. Now he gets a face in M-Net’s for the first time Devil’s Peakin which a father’s son is murdered in front of his eyes, and the father figure takes the law into his own hands and begins to exterminate suspected murderers.

Griessel must then stop more murders from being committed and the real killers from being apprehended.

It’s a cool, fast-moving, soapy series that will cheer up your Sunday evenings. The cinematography quickly attracts attention with Hilton Pelser’s acting helping him fill Griessel’s detective shoes. The story moves full of twists and turns through the Cape underworld.

It will make you forget about the world around you for an hour. Devil’s Peaknow on M-Net, DStv Catch Up and DStv Stream.
