A suspected robber died on Table Mountain on Sunday after he was apparently sprayed with pepper spray by a guide and then fell.

A group of walkers were doing a walking route on Sunday when they were robbed by two robbers. According to JP Smith, Cape Town’s mayoral committee member for safety, the group’s guide sprayed the attackers with pepper spray, after which they fled.

On Monday, the police traced the signal from one of the stolen mobile phones when they came across the body of one of the suspects. He is believed to have fallen to his death after being sprayed with the pepper spray and fled.

Table Mountain National Park said the incident took place in the Camps Bay/Kasteelpoort area.

“According to the victims, the robbers stole mobile phones, a watch, cash and jewellery.”

The police are investigating the incident.
