Sabalenka’s boyfriend’s death investigated as suicide

The Miami-Dade police are investigating former NHL ice hockey player Konstantin Koltsov, boyfriend of tennis star Aryna Sabalenka, as a “suspected suicide”.

Argemis Colome, spokesperson for the police, said in an e-mail on Tuesday that the police went to the St. Regis Bal Harbor Resort was called, about a man “jumping from a balcony”.

“Miami-Dade police responded and took over the investigation into the suspected suicide of Konstantin Koltsov. No foul play is suspected,” he added.

RNews reported earlier that Koltsov was in Miami with Sabalenka at the time of his death, where she was preparing for her participation in the Miami Open.

Koltsov is a former professional ice hockey player who represented the Belarusian team in 2002 and 2010 at the Olympic Games. He was also part of the Pittsburg Penguins’ National Ice Hockey League team between 2002 and 2006.

He was 42 years old.

The Daily Mail earlier erroneously reported that Koltsov had died from a blood clot.

Sabalenka (25), the world’s second best women’s tennis player, was to participate in the tournament in Miami this week. The Belarusian tennis player won the Australian Open in 2023 and retained her title in Melbourne earlier this year. She has not yet commented publicly on Koltsov’s death.
