At least seven people were killed and dozens injured when a truck and a bus collided head-on on the N6 between Rouxville and Smithfield in the Free State on Friday morning.
Sipho Towa, spokesperson for the Free State emergency services, says emergency personnel were called to the scene at around 04:00.
The accident occurred approximately 27 km outside Smithfield in the direction of Bloemfontein.
According to Towa, seven passengers were pronounced dead at the scene when paramedics arrived.
“One person was critically injured, six sustained moderate injuries and 36 sustained minor injuries.”
All the injured were taken to Smithfield Hospital for medical treatment.
