Six killed in shootout with police

Six suspects were killed in a shootout with the police in Inanda in KwaZulu-Natal on Thursday morning.

The shooting broke out at a house in Emachobeni after the police followed up on intelligence about the whereabouts of suspects – who are wanted in connection with a spate of housebreakings, murders, business robberies and hijackings.

According to Brig. Jay Naicker, police spokesperson, when the police arrived at this house, the suspects fired wildly and alertly at the officers. The police returned fire and shot and killed six suspects.

Three more suspects, including a 31-year-old woman, were arrested.

Only one police officer was injured when a bullet grazed his hand.

“Two firearms and a shotgun were found in the suspects’ possession, as well as a vehicle that was hijacked at KwaDabeka in December last year. The suspects will appear in court soon,” said Naicker.
