Solid Earthbeat program offers something for every festival goer

Cindy Swanepoel, Zak Hendrikz, De Klerk Oelofse, Sandra Prinsloo, Dawid Minnaar, Je-Ani Swiegelaar, Antoinette Kellerman, Jill Levenberg, Geon Nel and Charlie Bouguenon are just a handful of the South African artists who will perform at the Momentum Beleggings Aardklop this year will be seen on stage.

On Wednesday evening, Aardklop officially announced its festival program for this year’s art festival in Potchefstroom, North West.

The festival takes place from 3 to 8 October.

“This year’s program has been put together to offer every festival goer and ticket buyer something: You can simply come to the festival site and relax; or you can lose yourself in the most beautiful musical theatre; laugh at comedies; reflect on where we are as a unique South African society; or talk to each other during our conversations; or stand in awe of a work of art,” says Alexa Strachan, chief executive of the festival.

Karen Zoid and Nataniël’s music productions created especially for Aardklop will be on the stage, while Alfred Adriaan (Unfit and forty) and Desiré Gardner (Magda Louw) will provide the comedy.

Theater productions such as The mother, Miracle, Whorechild, Mixtape of love and Dream jobwhich has performed well at other festivals, will join debut works such as Goed waiting to happen, 1 and The woman on the roof to be seen

Chat, argue and listen together at The Roots Sonkamer where this year’s topical and book discussions are presented. Incisive topical discussions are led by, among others, Beeld editor Barnard Beukman, discourse is led by Lourensa Eckard from kykNET’s In conversationand the popular Sake & Sauvignon presented by Theo Vorster.

Book talks include numerous publishers such as Penguin Random House SA, NB and Protea Boeke, and talks are held with world-class authors such as Marita van der Vyver, Leon van Nierop and Madelein Rust.

Come and decide with Dawie Boonzaaier who is the best Springbok of the modern era when he talks about Report: 30 best goats. Also hang out at the Boeke-Oase and the Netwerk24 festival cafe.

The festival concludes on Sunday at the Langtafel, and with the traditional choir and orchestra performance, Calling All Dawnsin the Image Auditorium.

Aardklop’s refined Hartsvriende concept has also just been launched. This includes membership in the form of an annual donation of R500 or more, and is valid for a period of 12 months (1 June 2023 to 30 June 2024).

It is possible to join throughout the year, with membership valid for the above period.

The festival site is on the banks of the Mooi River and offers togetherness, quality food and crafts with entertainment for the whole family. Day tickets cost R50 and weekly tickets cost R150. Children under 12 get in for free.

Ticket sales officially open on Monday 19 June. Aardklop Hartsvriende gets priority and can already buy tickets on Friday 16 June.
