Stage 4 load shedding until Sunday

Phase 4 load shedding will be South Africans’ foreland until Sunday.

Eskom has announced that phase 4 load shedding will be introduced between 16:00 and 05:00 daily until Sunday. After that, phase 2 load shedding will follow which will then be in effect for the rest of the day.

“This is necessary due to the need to restore emergency generation reserves and essential generation maintenance that must be carried out in preparation for the coming week,” says the power supplier.

A total of 14,953 MW of capacity is currently unavailable, while 5,914 MW is given up to planned maintenance work.

Two generating units each at Kendal and Tutuka power stations have not yet been brought back online, and at this stage this is causing capacity challenges.

Eskom said its crews are working non-stop to bring all these generating units back online.

Eskom’s forecast for the evening peak demand is 27,639 MW.

“We urge consumers to continue to reduce demand for power by turning off non-essential appliances.”
