Eskom has announced that phase 5 load shedding will be introduced tonight from 22:00 until 05:00 tomorrow.
This is in order to replenish storage dam levels overnight and to maintain sufficient emergency generation reserves, says the power supplier.
Phase 4 load shedding will be in effect from 05:00 on Tuesday until further notice.
“Eskom will inform consumers if any further changes occur.”
Eskom said on Sunday that a total of 16,646 MW is currently unavailable due to technical errors. A total of 5,107 MW were shut down for planned maintenance.
Over a period of 24 hours, no power is imported from Cahora Bassa, due to planned maintenance. It is expected to return to normal levels on Monday morning.
During the same period, a unit at Tutuka power station was switched off for repairs and one unit each at Duvha, Kendal, Kriel and two units at Arnot were put back into service.
The delay in restarting one unit each at Hendrina, Kendal, Matimba and Matla has contributed to the current limitation in capacity.
