‘Starsky & Hutch’ actor dies


Actor David Soul, best known for his role in the television series Starsky & Hutchdied on Thursday at the age of 80.

His wife, Helen Snell, confirmed in a statement that he “died after a brave battle in the loving company of his family”.

“As an actor, singer, storyteller, creative artist and dear friend, he shared many extraordinary talents with the world.

“His smile, laugh and passion for life will be remembered by many whose lives he touched,” she said.

The American-born actor was best known for his role as Detective Kenneth “Hutch” Hutchinson in the classic crime series Starsky & Hutch.

He starred opposite Paul Michael Glaser in the series, which aired from 1975 to 1979.

He and Glaser reprized their roles in the remade 2004 version of Starsky & Hutch reimagined, with Ben Stiller as Starsky and Owen Wilson as Hutch.

Stiller paid tribute to Soul by posting a segment from the original TV series on X (formerly Twitter).

The author Stephen King, who wrote the horror novel on which Salem’s Lot was founded, said he was “sorry to hear of Soul’s passing”.

Soul was also known for his roles in Here Come The Brides, Magnum Force, The Yellow Rose and Salem’s Lot.

He has also appeared in several British television programs including Holby City, Little Britain and Lewis. In 2004 he acquired British citizenship.
