A 31-year-old man is expected to appear in the Praktiseer Magistrate’s Court in Limpopo on Tuesday after he allegedly killed his one-year-old stepdaughter and assaulted her mother.
Col. Malesela Ledwaba, police spokesperson, says that when the police arrived at a house in Bothashoek outside Burgersfort, the baby girl was found unconscious on a sofa.
“She had no pulse and was found with bruises on her face; Paramedics pronounced her dead at the scene.”
According to reports, the stepfather assaulted the baby girl – in the absence of her 28-year-old mother – with an unknown object.
“Apparently around 18:00 the mother left the baby girl at home with her three-year-old sister to go look for her boyfriend at a tavern in Praktiseer,” says Ledwaba.
However, the suspect returned home before the woman, after which he allegedly assaulted and killed the baby girl.
“The mother arrived at home around 20:45 after which the suspect allegedly accused her of stalking him. He then allegedly assaulted her in the presence of their neighbours.”
Lt. Gen. Thembi Hadebe, police commissioner in Limpopo, strongly condemned the incident.
