Marcus Stoinis, Australia’s all-rounder, led the team to victory with his 69 runs off just 36 balls at the Kensington Stadium in Barbados.

The Aussies beat Oman by 39 runs on Thursday.

“It’s a good start for us,” said Stoinis, who was named the player of the match.

Stoinis hit six sixes and two fours during a great batting performance from the Australians.

David Warner scored 56 runs and his innings included six fours and a six. He retires from international cricket at the end of the tournament.

Four of Stoinis’ six sixes were hit in the 15th over and the 2021 champion team was able to double their score over the last six overs.

“Davey (Warner) and I talked (about tactics) before this over,” Stoinis said.

Oman lost an exciting super over in their opening match against Namibia on Sunday.

The Aussies are the first country to harvest all three world cricket titles and they have wielded the scepter in Tests and white-ball knockout tournaments.

Mitchell Starc, Nathan Ellis and Adam Zampa each took two wickets on Thursday.

Aqib Ilyas, Oman’s captain, meanwhile said that he was proud of his bowlers’ performance.

“Playing against a top team today was a wonderful experience, especially after our game against Namibia.

“All credit to our bowlers.”
