Stormers back on the winning track

After a string of consecutive defeats in the United Rugby Championship, the Stormers are finally back on the winning track after beating Zebre 31 – 7 at the Danie Craven Stadium in Stellenbosch.

Coach John Dobson, who was very relieved after the Cape Town’s disappointing performance against Cardiff in the previous round, now had his returning Springbok players at his disposal.

The evergreen Deon Fourie won the no. 6 jersey, while Manie Libbok and Damian Willemse served in the back line.

But even with the World Cup winners in the starting fifteen, the Stormers still struggled at times to make a proper mark on the game.

In the past, the Capetians would have settled with the Italians laughing, but Zebre is a horse of a different color this year and the home team sometimes had to work hard to score points.

But when everything went smoothly, they looked like the team of old.

Evan Roos scored the first try of the game after a very strong scrambling effort, while backline stars such as Ruhan Nel, Courtnall Skosan, Leolin Zas and Damian Willemse were also part of the try-scoring party.

The bonus point win means that the Capes now occupy tenth place in the official standings and they are within striking distance of the Lions, Connacht and Ulster.
