Stormers tread clay against Cardiff

Henry

Have you ever wondered how a team dominates the opening salvos of a game and lets a 14-0 lead slip through its fingers only to end up losing the matchup?

One can certainly ask this question of the Stormers after the Cape Town lost 31-24 against Cardiff on Friday night.

The Stormers played excellent rugby for the first 20 minutes of the game, but after that they just lost steam and the home team – who then started playing with a newfound rhythm – punished them on the scoreboard.

Although there were signs of a Cape revival early in the second half, they again took their foot off the accelerator and Rhys Litterick’s try in the dying moments sealed the showdown for Cardiff.

It was the Stormers’ fourth defeat in a row and their last United Rugby Championship victory was on 28 October against the Scarlets at the Danie Craven Stadium.
