Sunrisers give Super Kings a bloody nose

Henry

Sunrisers Eastern Cape, the defending champion team, have booked their place in the play-offs of the latest version of the SA20 tournament.

The Eastern Cape steamrolled the Joburg Super Kings by nine wickets on the Wanderers after bowling out the home team for just 78 runs.

Daniel Worrall (3/20) and Patrick Kruger (3/8) combined excellently and within 16 overs all the Johannesburg batsmen were back in the dressing room.

It also seems that Faf du Plessis’ batting revival in the tournament is short-lived: He was caught behind the wickets by Worrall’s bowling.

The former Protea captain is struggling with his level of play after his elbow surgery and he has to be content with innings of 6, 7, 10, 9, 17, 25*, 50* and 0.

Then two Englishmen, Dawid Malan and Tom Abell, hit the winning runs on the trot to round off a convincing Sunrisers victory.

  • Summary of the scorecard:

Joburg Super Kings 78/10 in 15.2 overs: Wayne Madsen 32, Patrick Kruger 3/8 and Daniel Worrall 3/20.

Sunrisers Eastern Cape 79/1 in 11 overs: Dawid Malan 40*, Tom Abell 26* and Lizaad Williams 1/7.
