Sunrisers’ Hermann shines with 100

Jordan Hermann turned on the runs at Newlands on Tuesday evening to hit the second century of the latest SA20 tournament.

The 22-year-old opener hit an unbeaten innings of 106 runs and his partnership of 138 runs laid the foundation for the Sunrisers Eastern Cape’s four-run win against MI Cape Town.

The Sunrisers scored 202 runs in his 20 overs, after which Ottniel Baartman’s great bowling performance stopped the home team train in its tracks: after all, Ryan Rickelton and Rassie van der Dussen ensured the perfect run-up to the home team’s innings.

But back to Hermann’s tour de force.

He smashed the ball over the boundary six times in his innings of 62 deliveries and he particularly impressed with his acceleration.

The alumnus of Hoërskool Waterkloof in Pretoria initially scored just 30 runs from his first 26 deliveries, but then he kept his foot on the accelerator to smash 76 runs from his last 36 balls.

His whirlwind performance caught the attention of AB de Villiers.

“I am not only impressed with his talent, but also with his character. He has a very bright future waiting for him and he is currently playing good cricket,” the Protea legend shared on social media.
