A 40-year-old suspect (and suspected gang member) was arrested on Thursday in connection with the shooting death of Toufeeq Williams (37), a member of the Western Cape government’s program for the promotion of law enforcement, better known as LEAP.
RNews earlier reported that Williams was fatally wounded by a stray bullet on Sunday afternoon while he was walking with his daughter in Beacon Valley, Mitchells Plain.
The office of the Western Cape Provincial Police Commissioner says someone has since been arrested thanks to the vigilance and quick response of the police in Grassy Park.
Detectives investigated, made an identification of the suspect and confirmed that the man is being housed by fellow gang members in the Grassy Park policing area.
The suspect will appear in Mitchells Plain Magistrates’ Court once he has been formally charged.
