Task force deployed after murder of NFP ward councilor in KZN

A 75-year-old ward member of the National Freedom Party (NFP), also known as the National Freedom Party, was shot dead in the early hours of Sunday at her home in Nongoma in KwaZulu-Natal.

Ntombenhle Mchunu was shot dead at around 01:00 on Sunday. A child was wounded and hospitalized in critical condition.

Armed attackers reportedly broke into the house, fired several shots and then fled.

Brig. Athlenda Mathe, national police spokesperson, says the police have mobilized their national task force on political murders and made the maximum resources available to arrest the suspects.

A case of murder and attempted murder is being investigated.
