The pop singer, Taylor Swift, walked away with a whopping nine awards at this year’s MTV Video Music Awards.
These awards took place on Tuesday in New Jersey, USA and honored the cream of the American music industry.
However, Taylor came clean, making her the second most awarded singer in this awards event’s history, next to Beyoncé.
She won awards for Best Artist, Pop Song, Regular Song and Video of the Year. She also won the awards for Best Performance of the Summer, Best Album of the Year, Best Direction, Cinematography and Visual Effects for her “Anti Hero” music video.
“This is incredible. The fact that this (award for best song of the year) is a viewer’s choice means an incredible amount to me,” she said during one of her acceptance speeches.
“This past year has felt like the adventure of a lifetime. I can’t believe that it was a year ago that I at the VMA awards Midnights-album announced. All I can say tonight is thank you.”
Shakira also made history at this year’s awards event when she became the first South American artist to receive a prestigious Video Vanguard award.
A surprise performance by the pop group, NSYNC, had audience members in awe. It was the first time in 10 years that this group entered the stage together.
Other winners include Nicki Minaj (best hip-hop hit), Rema and Selena Gomez (best Afro-rhythm), Blackpink (best choreography and group of the year) and Olivia Rodrigo (best editing).
