A third suspect was arrested on Thursday evening in connection with the recent wave of attacks on trucks.

Brig. Police spokesperson Athlenda Mathe said the third suspect was arrested in eMalahleni, Mpumalanga.

The three suspects will appear in the Ermelo Magistrate’s Court on Monday on charges of malicious damage to property.

RNews reported earlier that the first two suspects were arrested on Thursday morning.

A multidisciplinary team of the police arrested the two men, aged 27 and 29, at their residences, Mathe said.

“The first suspect was arrested with the assistance of a private security firm on a farm at Piet Retief and the other in Ermelo.”

According to Mathe, the police are continuing with high-density operations, including roadblocks, stop-and-searches and the tracking of the wanted suspects.

“The police are on the heels of more suspects, including the leaders of these sporadic incidents of criminality.”

No less than 21 trucks were set on fire in KwaZulu-Natal, Mpumalanga and Limpopo this week.
