This is what the load shedding outlook looks like for the week

Phase 2 load shedding will be introduced at 16:00 on Sunday and will be in effect until 05:00 on Monday.

After that load shedding will be suspended again until 16:00. Phase 2 load shedding will then be reintroduced from 16:00 Monday to 05:00 Tuesday. This pattern of no load shedding between 05:00 and 16:00 and phase 2 load shedding between 16:00 and 05:00 will then be repeated daily until further notice.

“While the available generation capacity has been maintained, the need to supplement the emergency reserves for the coming week necessitates an increase in the phase of load shedding. Eskom will closely monitor the power system and communicate any changes to load shedding if necessary.”

Unplanned outages have reduced generation capacity to 13,350 MW, while 8,476 MW are out of service for planned maintenance.

“The managers and their teams at Eskom’s power stations continue to work diligently to ensure that additional generation capacity is recovered by bringing units back into service with unplanned outages and planned maintenance.”

A total of 3,300 MW of generating capacity is expected to be back in use by Monday.

“We would like to thank those who do heed the call to use electricity sparingly and efficiently, including turning off geysers and pool pumps between 5pm and 9pm. This lowers demand and helps relieve pressure on the power system, contributing to lower levels of load shedding.”
