Eskom says that due to the recovery of some generating units while planned maintenance continues, phase 5 load shedding has been introduced at 05:00 on Friday morning and will continue until Saturday morning at 05:00.
After that, phase 3 load shedding will be introduced from 05:00 to 16:00, followed by phase 4 load shedding from 16:00 – 05:00 Sunday morning.
The further reduction in load shedding phases over the weekend is thanks to expected additional capacity, improvement in emergency power generation reserves and a lower demand for electricity over the weekend.
Eskom will provide information again on Sunday afternoon or as soon as any significant changes occur.
A total of 15,895 MW is unavailable due to unplanned technical problems. A total of 5,474 MW is currently shut down for planned maintenance.
Eskom’s load outlook for the evening peak times is 28,536 MW. “We appeal to consumers to still switch off non-essential devices,” said the power supplier.
