The police in Harrismith in the Free State arrested three suspects at Intabazwe near the town on Friday morning after they were caught with suspected stolen diesel.
Ao. Police spokesperson Mmako Mophiring says the police were busy with their normal crime prevention routine when they received information about stolen diesel hidden in Intabazwe near the airport at around 06:00.
“The team immediately followed up on the information that led to the arrest of three suspects – who were found in possession of suspected stolen diesel -. Fourteen 25 liter containers of diesel and a black bakkie were seized.”
The suspects, respectively aged 28, 33 and 44, are expected to appear in the Harrismith Magistrate’s Court on Monday on charges of theft.
“As police, we appeal to the truck drivers to be aware of people who steal fuel from their parked trucks or of the drivers who stop along the roads and sell the same fuel to thieves.
“Theft of fuel is a serious offense and such criminals will be dealt with accordingly.”
