Three children, aged between two and six, died after playing in a car and suffocated.

The incident took place on Wednesday afternoon in Jamela in the Bolobedu policing area outside Tzaneen in Limpopo.

According to col. Malesela Ledwaba, police spokesperson, the police were informed by a local clinic about three children who were taken there by their parents after they were found unconscious in a car.

Two girls, respectively two and six years old, were already declared dead when the police arrived at the clinic, while a three-year-old boy was in a critical condition. He died on Thursday.

“According to the information available at this stage, two children, the three-year-old boy and his six-year-old sister, were playing with the neighbours’ two-year-old daughter and ended up in a parked vehicle, all the windows of which were closed.” A young family member later came across the unconscious children and called for help.

The police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident and inquests are being conducted.
