Eskom hastily announced on Monday afternoon that it had to push up load shedding further because some of its generating units could not be brought back online.
Phase 5 load shedding will be in effect from Monday 14:00 to Tuesday 05:00, after which phase 4 will apply again until further notice.
The power supplier says that in addition to the generating units that could not be brought online, another five of its generating units failed on Monday.
Eskom earlier announced the outlook for load shedding for the week. According to this schedule, load shedding will vary between phase 2 and phase 4 from Tuesday.
