Two arrested for foreigner’s kidnapping

Two men were arrested on Friday after the kidnapping of an elderly foreigner outside the Johannesburg Botanical Garden in Emmarentia.

The incident took place in February this year, when the victim was allegedly attacked and kidnapped by a number of men in the parking lot of the botanical garden. According to a report on News24, the victim is a retired businessman from Austria.

He was reportedly detained for 50 days, before he was released in Randburg on March 29 and reunited with his family.

According to col. Noxolo Kweza, police spokesperson in Gauteng, the suspects are respectively 31 and 43 years old. They will appear in the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court on Monday.

The police’s investigation into the incident continues.
