Uphill battle awaits, despite Muthusamy success

Senuran Muthusamy’s excellent spin bowling means that South Africa A are still standing against Sri Lanka A in Pallekele.

The Durban native took five wickets in the home team’s second innings to boast a bowling analysis of 12/175 in the multi-day tour match.

Muthusamy made his international debut in 2019 during the Proteas’ disastrous tour to India, but he admittedly took the wicket of Virat Kohli in Visakhapatam.

However, his latest bowling success does not necessarily mean that the South Africans will tame Sri Lanka.

The visitors need 345 runs for victory, and after being bowled out for just 131 in their first innings, it looks like that hurdle may just be too high.

Matthew Breetzke, who excelled in the first innings with his unbeaten fifty, is already back in the dressing room with Tony de Zorzi and Jordan Hermann.

Muthusamy is currently in front of the goals with Keegan Petersen, while the skills of Dewald Brevis can also be relied on.
