What makes my place in Pretoria so special?

Henry

This is a question that has been asked by thousands of dreamers. This is a question that many people ask, but few can really answer with facts.

We live in the 21st century – the century where the billboards and shiny talk stand stronger than the real value or action of a cause. We live in the age where the general city citizen has access to more information than a library full of books. But what now? What does a person, or even currently a young person, do with all this knowledge to address current issues?

It ALL starts at home. Not necessarily in the inner corners of the living room, but rather in the 4 blocks around your home. World-renowned activist, Mahatma Ghandi, once said: “If you want change, be the change“. These words stick when I think of community involvement.

I believe that before you live out responsible citizenship in your environment, you must first make it practical for yourself. Take a look… Take note of the skills you have that you can give as seed food to your community. If you are literate, teach children to read or write, if you have a lawnmower, help keep the sidewalk clean, keep an eye on Facebook groups for outreach actions, connect with people on your street and ask how you can support each other. If you make it your vision to make a difference in the lives of others, there will be endless opportunities to get involved.

Young people, if we want to create a society where cooperation is the order of the day, we must realize that we must carry the torch forward. We must protect it and build on it for the future.

Responsible citizenship is a long-standing concept that one occasionally hears on a radio interview or in the HAT, but I challenge you… Make 2024 the year you make this word your own. Be a beacon for your fellow man. You don’t have to build houses or promise jewels to someone to add value to their life.

Start small! Along with this, we must take into account that 2024 is an election year. Young person, this means that you have the opportunity to have a say in who you want to run in front. Every vote counts. Every vote influences the direction for our city’s future. Don’t forget it. Take your place in Pretoria. You were made to be a walking testimony of service.
