Win: ‘Barbie’ impresses after critics get first look

“Funny, bombastic and very clever.”

This is how ScreenRant reviewer Joseph Deckelmeier describes the new film, Barbie, described. He is one of the handful of people who have been chosen to get a first glimpse of this long-awaited film.

With Margot Robbie wearing Barbie’s pink heels, and Ryan Gosling very comfortable with Ken’s pure white haircut, excitement is running high about this movie which will finally be released later this month.

“Margot Robbie’s acting is fantastic, and Ryan Gosling and Simu Liu are pure entertainment. The entire cast is brilliant,” Joseph shared on Twitter.

Other reviewers described the film as “spicy, heartfelt and pure fun.”

The finer details of the film are not yet known, but the trailer does reveal that Barbie and Ken are on their way “to the real world” in this film.

Gosling had social media abuzz when a short video of a song he sings in the movie ended up on YouTube.

Gosling is reminiscent of a wacky pop star with this striking clip.

Greta Gerwig co-wrote the film with Noah Baumbach and is also the director of the movie. Gerwig was also responsible for the hit films such as Lady Bird and Little Women.

Will Ferrell, Emma Mackey, Michael Cera and Kate McKinnon also appear in the film.

Barbie is now also a marine biologist

“Movie star” is not the only new title behind Barbie’s name.

A brand new Barbie doll, this time a marine biologist, has just hit the shelves and was launched earlier this week at uShaka Marine World in Durban.

Barbie now has more than 250 careers to her name, with each one released in an effort to inspire young children.

The Barbie Marine Biologist doll is issued together with a ten-piece laboratory.

“We are excited to work with the Barbie team to shape young thinkers. A career in marine biology is for those who have an investigative mindset, passion for science and for working in nature,” said Buhle Malunga, marketing manager of uShaka Marine World.

“Being a marine biologist includes many adventures, exciting field work, times at sea and diving. At uShaka Marine World, marine biologists work with turtles, fish, dolphins, seals, sharks and penguins.”
