A 65-year-old domestic worker from Secunda, Mpumalanga, died on Saturday after six dogs apparently attacked her at her employer’s house. Police identified her as Tryphinah Elizabeth Mngomezulu.

Her employers, who were not at home during the incident, found Mngomezulu’s lifeless body in the yard and called the police and emergency workers. Paramedics pronounced Mngomezulu dead at the scene, says col. Donald Mdhluli, police spokesperson.

Among other things, the police seized CCTV footage that will be included in the investigation.

“The SPCA has already been approached and the information that the investigators have received is that the dogs in question, which apparently attacked and killed the woman, were already put out on Sunday,” says Mdhluli.

Police did not indicate what breed the dogs were.

An inquest is being conducted.

The provincial commissioner of police in Mpumalanga, Lt. Gen. Semakaleng Daphney Manamela, assured Mngomezulu’s family that the incident and the circumstances that may have given rise to it will be properly investigated.
