More than 300,000 online applications for placement in Gauteng schools had been successfully processed by Monday, the provincial education department said.

In total, 300,907 applications have been received since the online registration process began on Thursday. Of these, 131,294 applications are for prospective gr. 1 learners and 169 613 for gr. 8 learners.

Parents and guardians still have until July 14 to register their children.

Steve Mabona, spokesperson for the department, emphasizes that applicants must submit a valid mobile phone number on the system to receive important notifications.

Other important documents include a copy of the parent’s and child’s passport, South African residence and study permits, birth certificates, proof of work and home address and gr. 8-learners’ gr. 7 reports.

RNews reported earlier that, as in previous years, this year too there were several hiccups with the online system, including a struggle to successfully fill in ID numbers. However, it was resolved relatively quickly.

Some applicants who have their prospective gr. 8s who wanted to enroll also experienced problems as they could not submit the name of their child’s previous school on the system. Apparently this problem has also been cleared up.

Solidarity’s Education Network earlier encouraged parents to enroll their children as soon as possible to ensure that they get a place in the school of their choice.
