Mayor Mongameli Bobani to lead Bay's Arbor Day celebrations in Motherwell
Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality Executive Mayor, Mongameli Bobani, is expected to lead the Metro's Arbor Day celebrations in Motherwell, Port Elizabeth, with the official opening of a multi-million rand public park on Wednesday.
According to Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality spokesperson, Mthubanzi Mniki, the municipality is committed to creating a healthy and safe environment for children in areas where they stay.
"As part of the commitment, the municipality has embarked on a programme to convert illegal dumping sites to children playing parks and outdoor gyms," he added.
"In celebration of Arbor Day and a clear message to the residents on the importance of clean and healthy environment, the municipality will officially open a park and outdoor gym facility in Motherwell Ward 23.
"The area where the facility has been done used to be an illegal dumping site, which posed a risk to the residents, more especially children."
Mniki said that the municipality has spent more than R2 million on the facility.
"Mayor Mongameli Bobani with all members of the Mayoral Committee will officially open the park, plant trees and inspect the facilities that have been put in place."
