A large fire broke out at the Koedoespoort substation in East Lynne, Pretoria on Friday afternoon.
The incident resulted in power outages in, among others, Queenswood, Môregloed, Kilnerpark, East Lynne, Waverley, Montana and the surrounding areas.
According to Cilliers Brink, Tshwane’s executive mayor, firefighters from the Tshwane metro were soon on the scene and by 14:30 they had already extinguished most of the flames.
“Once we have assessed the damage, we will be able to give a credible timeline of when power supply will be restored,” Brink said at the scene.
“However, I want to give the assurance that the metro and the council members are fully concerned with the situation and are working hard to give residents a credible timeline.”
A possible cause is not yet known, but investigations have apparently already begun.
