Djokovic still Wimbledon favorite – Alcaraz

Carlos Alcaraz believes he is capable of winning Wimbledon after winning his first title on grass on Sunday when he beat Alex de Minaur 6-4, 6-4 in the final of the Queen’s club tournament in London.

The Spaniard’s fifth title of the season also earned him the title of the world’s leading player. However, he believes that Novak Djokovic remains the favorite to win Wimbledon for the eighth time next month.

This is only the third tournament that Alcaraz has played on grass and he has shown impressive progress throughout the week in the Queen’s tournament after almost falling to Frenchman Arthur Rinderknech in the first round.

The US Open champion is confident of progressing beyond the fourth round of Wimbledon for the first time.

“I have quite a lot of confidence heading into Wimbledon. I ended the week on a high note, so right now I feel like I’m one of the favorites to win Wimbledon, but I need to get more experience on grass,” says Alcaraz.

“Novak is the favorite to win Wimbledon, but I will try to play at this level to have the chance to beat him or reach the final.

“I saw statistics that Novak won more matches at Wimbledon than the other top 20 players (combined).”

Djokovic has reigned supreme at Wimbledon since 2018 and hasn’t lost on the main court in the last ten years since losing to Andy Murray in the final.

However, Alcaraz hopes to have the crowd on his side should he and Djokovic play in the final.
