Two people, including a teenage boy, were shot dead in Bethelsdorp early Thursday evening.

Young Kurtley Rossouw (14) died during this shooting in Bloemendal after a stray bullet hit him. Kurtley was standing outside the yard of his parents’ house when he was hit in the back.

A third young man was seriously wounded during the incident while a fourth ran away.

The incident is gang-related.

Col. Police spokesperson Priscilla Naidu says the police responded to a shooting in Lawrence Erasmus Drive in Bloemendal at around 18:15. Two men were lying on the ground when police officers arrived at the scene.

Justin Malgas (25) was shot several times and has already died. The second man (26) was still alive. However, he sustained a gunshot wound to his head and arm and was taken to a hospital for medical treatment.

The third man had already fled at that stage.

An injured Kurtley was found outside the yard and rushed to a hospital. However, he passed out on the way there.

Naidu says Malgas was apparently walking with two men in Lawrence Erasmus Drive when shots were fired at them from a silver Renault.

The Eastern Cape police’s organized crime unit is currently investigating two cases of murder and one of attempted murder.
