Konstantin Koltsov, the boyfriend of Grand Slam tennis champion Aryna Sabalenka, died suddenly on Monday in Miami, Florida. He was 42 years old.

Koltsov is a former professional hockey player who represented the Belarusian team in 2002 and 2010 at the Olympic Games.

He was also part of the Pittsburg Penguins’ National Hockey League team between 2002 and 2006.

An initial statement by the Belarusian Hockey Federation confirmed Koltsov’s sudden death. The Daily Mail meanwhile reported that Koltsov died from a blood clot.

At the time of his death, he was in Miami with Sabalenka, where she was preparing for her participation in the Miami Open.

“The Belarusian Hockey Federation wishes to express its condolences to Konstantin’s family, friends and all those who worked with him and knew him,” the statement said.

“We are in mourning.”

Sabalenka (25), the world’s second best women’s tennis player, was to participate in the tournament in Miami this week. The Belarusian tennis player won the Australian Open in 2023 and retained her title in Melbourne earlier this year.

She has not yet commented publicly on Koltsov’s death. Koltsov joined Sabalenka in Miami a week before his death.
