A traffic officer was killed on Thursday morning on the R71 road next to the Kolobe Lodge in the Mopani district in Limpopo.

Vongani Chauke, spokesperson for the MEC for transport and community safety in Limpopo, says that according to information, Itani Robinah Ravele (36) was run over while she was diverting traffic at an accident scene.

“There may have been a fault with the brakes of the car, together with a fast speed,” says Chauke.

Ravele was attached to the Phalaborwa traffic station.

MEC Florence Radzilan expressed her sadness at Ravele’s death and offered condolences to her family, friends and colleagues.

“Ravele served the traffic department with integrity and dedication to keep the people safe on the roads,” says Radzilan.

“We urge everyone to take extra precautions during this long weekend and follow the rules of the road. We also encourage everyone to continue to treat our traffic officers with respect and always follow their instructions on the roads.”
