The Canadian Taylor Pendrith walked away as the winner on Sunday evening in McKinney, Texas, after he properly exploited a mistake by Ben Kohles.

Pendrith won the CJ Cup Byron Nelson tournament, which is part of the American PGA Series, by one stroke after Kohles lost the bogey on the last hole.

Kohles scored two birdies on the 16th and 17th holes to overtake Pendrith, but then conceded a par on the 18th hole which opened the door for Pendrith.

The 32-year-old Pendrith scored a birdie and finished on 261 shots, 23 under par.

It was his first victory in the series after he had already struck out in 74 tournaments.

Kohles shot 66 in the final round and finished at 262 (-22). It would also have been his first win in the series.

Swede Alex Noren, who was also looking for his first victory in the series, was third at 263 (-21).

Four players, Matt Wallace and Aaron Rai (both from England) and Byeong-Hun Am and Seong-hyeon Kim (both from South Korea) were tied for fourth at 264 (-20).

* In the local Sonskyn series’ Waterfall City tournament played at Royal Johannesburg & Kensington, Louis Albertse won by seven shots and pocketed the prize money of R1 million for first place.

Albertse completed the final round, where some of the country’s top men’s and women’s players competed for the same prize money, in 64 strokes.

He finished on 265 hits (-23).

Casandra Alexander and the Welshman Rhys Enoch were joint second on 272 (-16) after both scored 68 shots in the fourth round.

They both earned R210 000.

Rupert Kaminski was fourth (274, -14) with Gerhard Pepler and Kyle Barker joint fifth at 275 (-13). The young Altin van der Merwe was the leading amateur at 280 (-8).
