Woman shot during food delivery in east Pretoria

A woman in her 40s from Moreleta Park in the east of Pretoria was shot in the stomach during an armed robbery on Saturday evening when she received a food delivery outside her home.

Ao. Duane Lightfoot, local police spokesman, says the woman ordered food online earlier in the evening. The delivery man stopped on his motorcycle outside the woman’s house in Suurkareestraat around 20:30 and the woman went outside to receive the food.

It is then that an unknown white vehicle drives by, makes a U-turn and stops at the gate.

An unknown man jumped out of the car and demanded the woman’s mobile phone before firing two shots at her. The shots hit her in the stomach.

The shooter jumped back into the white vehicle and the vehicle sped away. However, the vehicle was shortly afterwards involved in an accident in Jacques Street, Moreleta Park.

Police officers from the Garsfontein police station, who had already been informed of the shooting at that stage, stopped at the scene of the accident and the three suspects jumped out of their car and ran away.

However, two of the three were arrested shortly afterwards and will soon appear in the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court on charges of attempted murder.

However, the third suspect is still at large.

After the shooting, the woman was taken by ambulance to a hospital for medical treatment.
